Buying a snow blower is not as easy as it may sound. How do you select the best from hundreds of options?

There are many factors to consider before you can zero in on the perfect machine, some of which are:

  • How often and heavily does it snow where you live?
  • Would you need a single-stage or a two-stage blower?
  • Would you prefer gas, electric, or battery-run blower?
  • What is the area of your driveway, deck, patio, sidewalk, or any other place where you would be clearing snow?

Answering these questions will give you a better understanding of what to look for in a snow blower. If you are looking for a lightweight battery-operated blower to remove moderate snow cover, the RY40811 Cordless Snow Blower from Ryobi is an exceptional product.

In this piece, I am going to do an in-depth review of the RY40811 Blower, including its pros and cons.

Ryobi 40V Blower Review Mar 2024: Why do I like it?

ryobi blower reviewI have used the RY40811 blower extensively during the last couple of winters. Some top-notch features are packed into this machine that will make snow removal easy and quick. Here are some of the most rewarding elements of this machine, according to me:

Compact Build

The first thing I noticed about this blower was its small size. I was a bit skeptical about buying it because that’s how we tend to think about outdoor equipment – the bigger the better. I was pleasantly surprised after using it a couple of times as it gets the job done without any problem. So do not be fooled by its compact look.

Who in the world would like to occupy a considerable part of the garage with a machine that will only be put to use in winter? With the RY40811 blower, it is reasonably straightforward to store it owing to its small frame. Its build also adds significant portability, allowing you to move it from one place to another quickly.

Ergonomic Design

When it comes to outdoor equipment, an ergonomic design pays enormous dividends in the long run. And in that sphere, the RY40811 does not disappoint! I especially liked a couple of design highlights:

  • The push-button start is phenomenal – you won’t have to spend any time or effort to get this thing going
  • The LED lights are conveniently placed to enhance visibility in low light conditions
  • It has telescopic handles which are known for easy and secure storage and assembly

Its thoughtful and ergonomic design is proof of the fact that Ryobi is committed to providing excellent products to its customers.

Ease of Use

ryobi cordless blower reviewsI cannot emphasize enough on how easy it is to use and maintain this snow blower from Ryobi. All you need to do to start it is plug in the battery and press the push-start button.

Unlike gas blowers, you do not have to pull a cord a few times to start it. Also, no gas means zero hassle. You will not have to look for a wall socket to get this machine running, giving it an edge over electric blowers as well.

The lithium batteries need to be charged frequently, but that’s part and parcel of going for a battery-operated blower instead of an electric or a gas blower.

Operational Efficiency

The RY40811 offers extraordinary operational efficiency. The 40V motor is brushless and is powered by a Lithium 5.0 Ah battery. It offers a clearing width of 20 inches and a clearing depth of 10 inches. It can throw snow up to 25 feet away.

I was able to clear some heavy, wet snow with fully charged batteries, which I had not anticipated given how light and small this blower is.

What could’ve been better?

The Ryobi RY40811 Blower is not flawless, like everything else out there. There is a significant scope of improvement in certain aspects of the product. Here are a couple of shortcomings that I observed while using the blower around my house:

Utility

It works great if you have to remove around 6 to 8 inches of snow but do not expect it to clear much more than that. It is far from a heavy-duty snow blower and offers limited utility. Some consumers feel that it should provide a better clearing depth for its price.

Limited Power

Given the fair share of the pros of using a battery-operated blower, the biggest demerit lies in the restricted power. The dual batteries run out after approximately 45 minutes of usage. If you have a large deck and driveway as I do, you will not be able to cover all of it in a single charge.

Pros

Pros

  • The included operator’s manual is easy-to-follow
  • The LED headlights allow convenient usage in darkness
  • Its 8-inch wheels provide excellent traction and work on various surfaces
  • It has a compact build, enhancing its portability

Cons

Cons

  • It does not work well for removing more than 8 inches of snow
  • Its two batteries have limited power and need regular recharging

Verdict

Despite its shortcomings, the RY40811 is one of the absolute best single-stage battery-run snow blowers available in the market today. It is not meant to be the ideal choice for people living in places that receive heavy snowfall. For its intended users, it does not fail to deliver on its promises.

I can sum up my overall experience with this blower as nothing short of fabulous!
